| The Hangtown Jazz Jubilee was founded in 1986 by city leaders and jazz enthusiasts to bring a city wide fun event to downtown Placerville and to benefit youth musicians of El Dorado County with scholarships. Traditionally, there are a total of nine
downtown venues with some of the
West Coast's finest classic jazz bands and musicians. Free entertainment is also provided. The festival includes gospel music in the morning followed by a parade with
youth jazz bands, organizations and individuals in the jazz attire, and vintage cars. A costume and parasol contest at the Bell Tower follows the parade. Participants dress from the jazz era and bring a lively atmosphere to a wonderful day. Our objective has been accomplished by having dedicated volunteers who provide a fun day of music and dancing and who welcome jazz lovers to historic Main
Street. In past years, we have donated 25% of our net profit to Sugarloaf Station Foundation for scholarships that went to El Dorado County teen musicians. We will continue with our pursuit to do the same in the future.
2008
This year, due to economic conditions and highway construction, we were unable to secure adequate funds from Sponsors to hold the regular Hangtown Jazz Jubilee. We are, therefore, presenting a gala Jammin' Jazz Fundraiser to provide the community with a fun afternoon full of jazz performed by generous jazz musicians
who are donating their time.
We hope that you will join us on October 5, 2008, 12:00 to 6:00 PM, to help us raise funds for the 2009 Hangtown Jazz Jubilee! |
